Purdue University
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Construction Engineering at Purdue University, we designed a permanent timeline exhibit for the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering celebrating five decades of innovation, leadership, and industry impact.
Installed within the school, the exhibit chronicles the evolution of Purdue's Construction Engineering program from its founding in 1977 through its 50-year milestone in 2027. The experience was designed to honor the people, partnerships, and achievements that have shaped one of the nation's premier engineering-based construction programs while creating an enduring educational resource for students, faculty, alumni, and visitors.
Drawing from archival materials, historical records, and program milestones, we developed a comprehensive visual narrative that brings the program's history to life. The exhibit blends historical storytelling, photography, key achievements, and institutional context within a cohesive environmental graphic system tailored to the school's architecture and public spaces.
The timeline highlights significant developments in the Construction Engineering program, the growth of Purdue University and the College of Engineering, and the longstanding contributions of the Construction Engineering Advisory Committee. Careful attention was given to content hierarchy, readability, and visual continuity, allowing visitors to engage with 50 years of history in an intuitive and compelling way.
The finished installation serves as both a celebration of the program's legacy and a permanent expression of its identity. By transforming decades of milestones into an immersive visual experience, the exhibit reinforces Purdue Construction Engineering's tradition of excellence while inspiring future generations of students, faculty, and industry leaders. The result is a lasting landmark that connects the program's past, present, and future within the halls of the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering.
