JHU Engineering: Spring 2024

With a Circulation of 45,000, JHU Engineering showcases the leadership and global impact of the Johns Hopkins Whiting School faculty, students and alumni as they innovate to solve challenging societal problems. The editorial team does this by sharing stories about their educational activities, groundbreaking research, translational work, and accomplishments.

Cut Once supports the ongoing editorial design and art direction needs for JHU Engineering. This includes strategic planning, department and feature story ideation, art budget negotiation and management, illustration and photography development, technical design layout, printing/production management, online asset preparation, and vendor sourcing and management.

Designed by Cut Once: Penn-Mar Human Services 2023 Annual Report

Penn-Mar Human Services provides a range of educational, vocational and residential programs for more than 400 individuals with developmental disabilities across Northern Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania.

Penn-Mar partnered with Cut Once to design and develop an annual report reflective of the organization’s mission, visions and values. Cut Once worked closely with Penn-Mar to identify areas of significant organizational impact and create a user experience enriched with brave stories of success. The outcome is a bold report which was created on a multi-site framework powered by WordPress in order to allow for simple updates and years of future reporting to come.

Cut Once is a full-service, strategic design firm committed to helping mission-driven organizations communicate more effectively.

The Illustration of Patric Sandri

At Cut Once branding and design, we're excited to be working with the amazing Patric Sandri on an upcoming editorial project.

Patric lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland. Sandri earned an MA from the Royal College of Art in London. Prior to attending The Royal College of Art, he studied Visual Communications, earning a degree in Illustration from a college in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Sandri’s conceptual illustration, incorporating collage, digital drawing and painting, has appeared in magazines, newspapers, on book covers and posters. His work has been published in Time Magazine,The Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Advertising Age, and many other major publications.

Sandri takes pleasure in coming up with an uncommon solution to each assignment. To him, the idea is paramount in illustration. Sandri’s textural effects contrast bold color and shape to communicate sophisticated ideas. His work illustrates contemporary life and provides comment on the political and social climate today.

Splitting his time between illustration and painting, Sandri’s paintings explore the illusion of light, perception and atmospheric affect. His paintings have been exhibited at numerous galleries in Basel, Berlin, Vienna and Madrid.
