"Greg Bennett and his team at Cut Once take the time to dig deep and come up with inventive and  original approaches that make an impact and that show a real understanding of the content and of our goals. His dedication to understanding our needs, the needs of our audiences, and the subject matter we cover, has resulted in a magazine that is engaging, effective, and that reflects the quality and reputation of our school. Cut Once never approaches a new magazine issue—or even an article—with a one-size-fits-all attitude. Beyond the magazine design process, Cut Once also provides a full complement of services, including expertise in editorial oversight and management of production and our digital content, that have enabled us to streamline our projects and processes while creating cohesive and effective communications.”

The Typography of Ana Gómez Bernaus

Ana Gómez Bernaus is an illustrator and lettering artist currently based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Barcelona, her early work was influenced by Catalan Modernism, an art and literature movement that emerged around the turn of the 20th century, equivalent to the Art Noveau in France or the Jugendstil in Germany. Its attention to detail and visual richness permeated her style, filling her designs with dynamic, elaborate compositions.

In 2009, she decided to move to New York City, where she fell in love with typography and acquired a more rational and organized flavor in her work. Barcelona brought her a taste for illustration, New York allured her with typography, and now both disciplines live in Los Angeles through her expressive digital lettering. Her current work is influenced from both worlds, combining intricate pieces that exist in contained, clean environments. Her designs can be seen in a wide range of media, from film titles to advertising campaigns, apparel and editorial. Her clients include AIGA, Adobe, Converse, Direct TV, Los Angeles Magazine, Microsoft, Nike, Trident and Sherwin Williams among others.

Ana has been awarded the Type Directors Club Certificate of Typographic Excellence in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2019; the Communication Arts Typography Award in 2016, 2017 and 2018; and the SOTA and TypeCon 2016 Prototype Competition. She was nominated for the 2013 Lürzer’s Archive 200 Best Illustrators worldwide 2013/2014 and the Outstanding Graphic Design category in the Cinema Eye Honors in 2016 and in 2017. Her work has been featured in several books and publications in the US and Europe, including Adobe Create, Domestika, AIGA’s Eye On Design, Graffica and Etapes.

In addition to her lettering work, Ana has been a member of the Type Directors Club board of directors since 2017 focusing her efforts on bringing the TDC to the West Coast.
